Mycopunk Boss Guide: Which Build Beats Cranius, Amalgamation and the Abomination

How Cranius, Amalgamation and Abomination Assault each punish a different build, and the loadout that answers them.

Last Updated: 2026-10-24

Mycopunk has three boss problems, and they are not solved by the same weapon. Cranius is an armour-stripping test, Amalgamation is a sustained-damage test, and Abomination Assault is an efficiency test.

Picking the wrong archetype is the most common reason a team that clears Deadly missions wipes on a boss.

The three fights at a glance

Fight Where What it tests Best answer
Cranius Singularity, Crash Site Armour stripping + limb burst High single-target burst, Sunder
Amalgamation Amalgamation Hunt (weekly) Sustained damage across phases Cycler uptime or Gunship Prism
Abomination Assault Special assignment, level 15+ Kill throughput against a clock Area damage + mobility

Cranius: strip, then burst

Cranius is a walking armour problem. The body is covered in hundreds of small scrap plates that each soak damage before the core is exposed, and the legs regrow — roughly four seconds to rebuild a limb once it starts, with a cooldown before it can start again.

That produces a specific requirement: you need to finish a limb inside one regrow cycle. Chip damage does nothing; a leg that survives at 10% health comes back at full.

What works:

  • Shocklance. Burst per shot is what matters here, not DPS. One charge cycle should remove a segment.
  • Trident S2 for the same reason — reload cost is irrelevant when the window is four seconds.
  • Sunder on a slow weapon. Armour shredding multiplies the whole team's damage against the plate layer.

What does not work:

  • Cycler alone. The uptime is excellent and the burst is not. It is a fine secondary but cannot carry the leg phase.
  • Infection builds. Damage over time loses to a regrow timer.
  • Shotguns at range. You will be inside the melee radius the whole fight.

Positioning: Cranius turns slowly (around 50°/s, half the speed of a normal enemy) and moves at a walking pace. That is the whole counterplay — orbit at the edge of its turn rate and it cannot track you. Standing still is what kills teams, not the damage.

Two invulnerable phases break the fight up. Use them to reload, reposition, and clear adds rather than standing in the open waiting.

Amalgamation: sustained, not burst

Amalgamation is the weekly hunt boss and the opposite design. Its core sits behind three shell layers, and it carries four arms in solo, scaling up to seven in a four-player lobby. The arms regrow faster than Cranius's legs — around 2.5 seconds to rebuild — so limb removal is a tempo tool, not a win condition.

The arms are the fight:

  • Autocannon arm — sustained fire, the reason you need cover.
  • Decay Launcher — area denial, forces movement.
  • Sweeping Laser — the arm that punishes standing in the open.

Because shell layers must be chewed through, sustained damage beats burst here. Cycler with Diffraction Driver, or a Gunship Cannon running Prism on a large pattern, both work. Reload-heavy builds fall behind the arm respawn rate.

Team note: in a four-player lobby the arm count nearly doubles. That means the fight gets harder with more players unless everyone is contributing damage — a under-geared fourth is a liability, not a bonus.

Abomination Assault: a clock, not a boss

Abomination Assault is not a single boss. It is a timed special assignment — kill as many Abominations as possible before the timer runs out — available from level 15 across six New Atlas regions.

The build logic is completely different:

Need Why
Area damage Targets arrive in groups
Mobility You move between spawn clusters
No long reloads Downtime is the only thing you lose
Self-sustain No extraction, no resupply

Gunship Cannon is the default answer, with Street Sweeper strong in the tighter regions. Bruiser survives well here because the arena is dense and cover is scarce.

Do not bring a boss-killer build. There is no boss.

Preparation checklist

Before any boss run:

  1. Check threat. Bosses scale with threat and player count. A comfortable Deadly mission does not mean a comfortable Deadly boss.
  2. Bring one armour answer. Sunder or a high-burst weapon. Two players running pure DPS on Cranius is a slow wipe.
  3. Bring one area answer. Every boss spawns adds.
  4. Agree on the limb call. In co-op, all players on one limb beats four players on four limbs.
  5. Know your escape. Every boss has a phase that punishes standing still.

FAQ

What is the hardest boss in Mycopunk? Amalgamation in a four-player lobby, because the arm count scales to seven and the shell layers do not get easier.

Where does Cranius spawn? On Singularity and Crash Site.

Can you beat bosses solo? Yes, with reduced arm counts on Amalgamation. Cranius solo is mostly a movement check.

Is there a secret boss? Cranius is the one players usually mean — it is not on the standard mission list and shows up on specific maps.

Does threat affect boss rewards? It affects XP and drop quality. The unique rewards are tied to the mission, not the tier.
