Mycopunk Wrangler Build: Eyes Up Here and the Three-Move Escape
Eyes Up Here as a damage amp, Dust Kick plus Tuck'n'Roll for stacked movement, and the Wrangler grid to fit it.
Wrangler is the character most people start with and the one most people play wrong. The kit reads as "grapple and dash", so players build a mobility character and then wonder why their damage is low. In practice Wrangler is the game's best damage amplifier with a movement suite bolted on for free.
The build below is the one that clears Deadly without a support player and still contributes in a four-stack.
Eyes Up Here is the whole reason to play Wrangler
Eyes Up Here is a damage modifier that applies without setup, without a cooldown window you have to manage, and without standing still. It also heals you and hands out a speed boost. In a game where most multipliers require you to be at full health, in the air, or behind an enemy, an unconditional multiplier is worth more than its number suggests.
Everything else on the board supports it. If you take Eyes Up Here and then spend your cells on a random spread of damage Epics, you get maybe a 20% uplift. If you build one touching cluster around it, you get a build that holds up at Onslaught.
The three-move escape
Wrangler's real advantage is that its movement options are independent:
| Move | Source | Cooldown | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rocket Lasso | Base kit | Short | Pull yourself to a surface, or pull an object into an enemy |
| Air Dash | Base kit (jump, then dash) | Short | Lateral reposition mid-air |
Dust Kick + Tuck'n'Roll |
Upgrades | Very short | Huge slide-out leap, usable without the base kit |
Because Dust Kick and Tuck'n'Roll do not consume the base kit's cooldowns, a Wrangler can chain three separate escapes in about four seconds. That is more mobility than any other character in the game, including Glider, and it costs two upgrade slots rather than a build identity.
Take both. They are the cheapest survivability in Mycopunk.
Cell layout
| Slot | Cells | Why |
|---|---|---|
Eyes Up Here cluster |
3–4 | Damage engine, keep it in a corner with maximum contact |
Dust Kick |
2 | Movement |
Tuck'n'Roll |
2 | Movement, independent cooldown |
Ammo Processor |
3 | Required for Cycler/Trident uptime |
Reinforced Plating |
1–2 | Survival floor |
| Damage Epic | 3 | Second engine, infused at 13 |
| Fillers | 4–6 | Standards on the rim |
Two movement pairs plus a damage cluster plus uptime is about 17 cells. On a 5×5 board that leaves room for one Epic at the end of a run — which is exactly the budget you want, because Wrangler does not need a structural Oddity to function.
Which weapon
- The Cycler — the default. Fast, elemental reload variants let you match a team's damage type, and
Diffraction Driveradds a halo of splash that covers the close range Wrangler naturally fights at. - Trident S2 — the single-target pick for boss phases. Wrangler's amp plus Trident's precision is the highest single-target output available without a support.
- Shocklance — fun with the lasso, since you can pull a target into a charged shot. Not a threat-7 pick.
Avoid the heavy weapons. Wrangler wants to be moving, and every heavy weapon in the game wants you to stand still for a second.
How to actually play it
- Open with the lasso, not the gun. Pulling a target out of a group isolates it, and isolated targets die to
Eyes Up Hereamped fire before the rest of the wave arrives. - Dash sideways, never backwards. Backwards puts you in the next spawn; sideways keeps your fire line.
- Save
Dust Kickfor the second threat, not the first. The slide-out leap is your answer to a charger you did not see. - Use the lasso on objects, not just enemies. Barrels, crates and Saxonite containers are all pullable, and a thrown crate staggers a heavy.
Where Wrangler falls off
- Predicament solo. The amp is strong but you have no defensive layer, and swarm density eventually outpaces three escapes. This is a Bruiser's threat level.
- Missions with long hold phases. Planetary Defense and Prized Possession's core carry both want someone standing still under fire. Wrangler can do it, but a Bruiser does it better.
- Bullet Hell weeks. Projectile density is the one thing three dodges cannot solve. Slot a resistance cell and play further back.
Leveling priorities
Rush level 13 for infusion — Wrangler's damage curve is the flattest of the five employees until infusion arrives, because you are multiplying a modifier rather than a big base number. Bank duplicates of Eyes Up Here from level 10 and infuse that cell first. The upgrade path has the full spending order.
FAQ
Is Wrangler the best solo character? For threat 1–4, yes. Above Deadly the lack of a defensive layer starts to show, and Bruiser overtakes it.
Do Dust Kick and Tuck'n'Roll stack?
They are separate movement options with separate cooldowns, so yes — you can chain them, and that is the point of taking both.
What does Eyes Up Here actually amplify?
All damage you deal while it is active, which is why it scales with weapon choice rather than replacing it. Pair it with a fast weapon and the multiplier applies more often.
Should I take a second damage Epic or a third movement cell? Second damage Epic. Wrangler already has the most movement in the game; more of it has diminishing returns.
