Mycopunk Solo Build: Clearing Deadly Alone Without a Support Player
The solo build that clears Deadly alone: why Bruiser beats Wrangler above threat 5 and the cells that replace support.
Mycopunk is built for four players and is fully playable alone. The catch is that co-op solves two problems for you — healing and aggro splitting — and a solo build has to solve both with cells.
This is the solo answer, and it is not the character most people expect.
Why Bruiser, not Wrangler
Wrangler is the popular solo pick for threat 1–4 and that is correct: Eyes Up Here plus three movement options clears early content faster than anything else.
Above Deadly the maths flips. A solo player takes all the aggro, and Wrangler's damage amp does not stop a charger from behind. Bruiser's Modular Construction build gives six shield cubes and five extra charges — which in solo play is a second and third health bar, plus the cover you would otherwise get from a teammate holding a lane.
So:
| Threat | Best solo employee |
|---|---|
| Safe → Treacherous | Wrangler |
| Deadly | Wrangler or Bruiser |
| Onslaught | Bruiser |
| Predicament | Bruiser, and expect a long night |
The solo cell package
A solo board needs four things a co-op board can skimp on:
| Need | In co-op | In solo |
|---|---|---|
| Healing | DMLR / Carver teammate | Repair Siphon, health chunks, or a healing primary |
| Aggro split | A partner | Shields, cubes, or a decoy |
| Crowd clear | A second player's area damage | One area weapon or Diffraction Driver |
| Escape | A teammate's revive | A movement cell, mandatory |
The mistake solo players make is copying a co-op damage board. Four damage Epics with no sustain is a Deadly build that dies at Deadly.
The build
| Slot | Cells | Role |
|---|---|---|
Modular Construction |
Oddity | Survival engine |
Backboost |
2–3 | Escape |
Liquid Cooling + Thermal Paste |
6 | Cube uptime |
| Damage cluster | 3–4 | Your primary |
| Healing / sustain | 2 | The co-op replacement |
Reinforced Plating |
1–2 | Floor |
| Fillers | 4–6 | Standards |
That is a full 25-level board. Solo builds are more expensive than co-op builds for exactly this reason — you are buying the things a teammate would have given you for free.
Weapons for solo
- Gunship Cannon — best solo primary. Area damage replaces a teammate's crowd control, and
Prismscaling rewards the large board this build runs anyway. - Cycler with
Diffraction Driver— the fast alternative, better uptime, less burst. - DMLR — genuinely viable solo if you are running the Bruiser build. Healing yourself is not a waste when nobody else will.
- Trident S2 — swap for boss rooms only.
Missions that are solo-friendly
Solo difficulty is mission-dependent far more than threat-dependent:
| Mission | Solo rating | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cleanup Detail | Good | Clustered targets, short rooms |
| Saxonite Transport | Good | Chokepoints and hard cover |
| Planetary Defense | Fair | Fixed lanes, but long hold phases |
| Satellite Salvage | Fair | Wide arena, no cover |
| Prized Possession | Poor | Core carry with no one to cover you |
| Regulated Rampage | Good | No objective, pure combat |
Prized Possession solo is the hardest mission in the game: you carry the core, which means no weapon and no movement ability for the walk back. Do it in co-op.
Solo threat discipline
- Never fight in the open. Solo deaths are positioning deaths. Use a doorway, a cube, a corner.
- Clear one direction at a time. With no partner, a 360-degree room requires you to break line of sight on half of it.
- Bank your defensive cooldowns. If you have five cube charges and you are using them to climb, you have none when the charger arrives.
- Leave the room before the objective completes if the wave is still alive. Solo players die during extraction animations.
When to stop soloing
The honest answer: at Predicament. Not because it is impossible — a finished Bruiser can do it — but because the time cost is worse than finding one partner. Seasoned solo players farm at Treacherous and clear at Deadly, and the farming guide is built around that split.
FAQ
Can you beat Mycopunk solo? Yes. All missions are completable alone; the harder ones just take longer and punish positioning more.
Is there solo-only scaling? Enemy counts scale dynamically, and since 2.0.2 swarm intensity is dynamic rather than button-controlled, so solo runs are less crowded than a four-stack at the same threat.
Which character has the best solo survivability?
Bruiser with Modular Construction. Wrangler has better solo speed, not better survivability.
Do I need a healing weapon solo?
Only if you cannot find Repair Siphon. The cell is cheaper than the weapon slot, but the weapon is more reliable.
