Mycopunk Character Tier List: All Five Employees Ranked for 2.0.3
All five Mycopunk employees ranked by what they actually clear, with the oddity that decides each one's ceiling.
Five employees, and the ranking is less about raw power than about how much of a threat level each one can personally take responsibility for. A character who needs a partner to function is not S-tier, no matter how good the kit reads.
This is the 2.0.3 ranking, with the specific upgrade that decides each placement.

S: Bruiser
The community consensus that Bruiser is not a tank is right, and it is also why the character is S-tier. Modular Construction turns the Hard-Light Projector into six solid cubes with five extra charges, which converts a defensive tool into movement plus five extra lives. Add Backboost and the shield becomes the best escape in the game.
Bruiser is the only employee that can solo Predicament, and the only one whose best build does not depend on a specific weapon. Full layout in the Bruiser build.
Weakness: damage. You are not killing a boss quickly, you are outlasting it.
S: Wrangler
Eyes Up Here is the most consistent damage modifier in the game: no setup, no positioning requirement, plus healing and a speed boost. On top of that, Dust Kick and Tuck'n'Roll give two movement options with independent cooldowns, so a built Wrangler has three separate escapes and never has to commit.
Wrangler is the best character for threat 1–4 and the best partner for any damage dealer. It falls off at Onslaught because it has no defensive layer, which is the only thing keeping it from the top spot alone.
A: Mycologist
The newest employee and the highest ceiling. Infection as a resource, Eye of the Storm as a spend window (rewritten in 2.0.2 to consume infection while firing), and the Carver as a thematic weapon pairing that also heals.
Mycologist ranks A rather than S because of setup time: six seconds of stacking before a four-second window is a losing trade at Predicament, and because the build needs three Epics before it functions. Below level 20 it is genuinely mediocre. Above it, it is the best boss-damage employee in the game.
Unlock route: Expedition Alpha → Ground Zero → rescue. See Expedition Alpha.
A: Scrapper
Eye in the Sky plus duration stacking (Parallel Wiring, Spare Cable, Ideal Conditions) produces the only build in Mycopunk that can stay airborne for an entire mission. Altitude is the strongest defensive stat in the game, and the grapple pole is also the best team-mobility tool in co-op.
Scrapper ranks below Mycologist because the flight build spends 9–11 cells on uptime, leaving little room for damage, and because interiors — Titan City, Ice Floes tunnels — switch the build off.
B: Glider
Glider is not bad; Glider is conditional. The wingsuit refills from healing in co-op and from damage solo, which makes it excellent in a supported team and fragile alone. Star Fuel used to reduce fly duration when infused large — 2.0.2 fixed it, which is the single biggest buff any employee received.
Ranked last because it is the only employee whose best build changes completely depending on team composition, and because Rocket Salvo, while strong, is a third weapon rather than an identity.
Ranking by role instead
| Role | Best | Runner-up |
|---|---|---|
| Solo carry | Bruiser | Wrangler |
| Team damage | Wrangler | Mycologist |
| Boss killer | Mycologist | Trident S2 Wrangler |
| Support | Carver/DMLR Glider | Scrapper |
| Mobility / rescue | Scrapper | Wrangler |
| Beginner-friendly | Wrangler | Bruiser |
What the ranking gets wrong
Two honest caveats:
- Player skill moves characters a full tier. Accelerator-precision players get more out of Wrangler than the table suggests; players who cannot manage a six-second setup should not touch Mycologist.
- The Ouroboros meta is separate. Contraband upgrades cannot leave that mode, so the endgame ranking may diverge. See the Ouroboros guide.
FAQ
Which character should I start with? Wrangler. It teaches movement, has the most forgiving damage engine, and its upgrades transfer to every other character's board.
Is Bruiser really the best character? For survivability and solo clears, yes. For team damage contribution, no — Wrangler is.
Is Glider the worst character? It is the most conditional. In a four-stack with a healer it outperforms Scrapper; solo it is the weakest of the five.
Do characters share upgrades? Upgrades are universal cells, so progress carries across employees — which is why switching characters mid-progression is cheap and worth doing.
