Mycopunk Co-op Guide: How Four-Player Scaling Actually Works

How Mycopunk scales with players, the lobby rules that prevent wipes, and the role split that works in a four-stack.

Last Updated: 2026-10-24

Mycopunk is built for four players, and four players is not automatically easier than one. Enemy count scales, boss arm counts scale, and the failure modes change completely.

Most co-op wipes happen for reasons that have nothing to do with damage.

What scales

Thing Scaling behaviour
Enemy count Increases with players
Boss arms (Amalgamation) 4 solo → 7 at four players
XP and drops Shared, not multiplied per player
Mission XP Same pool, so more players = slower individual progress

That last row matters more than it looks. Four-player lobbies level slower per person than solo, because mission XP does not scale with the group. If your goal is unlocking, play solo or duo.

The three co-op failure modes

1. Splitting without a reason

Groups split because it feels efficient. In Mycopunk it usually is not: spawns are triggered by objectives, so a player alone in an unopened room is generating no value and cannot be revived.

Rule: split by objective, not by curiosity.

2. Overlapping roles

Four players all running area damage clear trash instantly and then have nothing for armour. The fix is a role split, not better aim.

3. Nobody has a revive answer

Downed players need cover. A team with no defensive layer cannot revive anyone, which turns one mistake into a wipe.

Role split that works

Role Job Build
Anchor Holds ground, revives, shields Bruiser with Modular Construction
Stripper Removes armour, opens boss phases Shocklance or Sunder carrier
Clearer Kills trash, prevents attrition Gunship Cannon / Cycler
Runner Objectives, flanks, revives at range Wrangler or Scrapper

Four players do not need four of these — two players can cover anchor + clearer. But every team needs someone who can strip armour and someone who can revive.

The co-op builds page has the cell lists.

Communication that matters

You do not need constant callouts. Three things are worth saying:

  1. "Armour" — when an armoured unit or boss plate appears and nobody is running Sunder.
  2. "Down" — with a direction, because revive priority is the whole game in a four-stack.
  3. "Rotating" — before you leave a position, so the team does not silently lose a lane.

Everything else is noise.

Team size recommendations

Size Best for Notes
Solo Levelling, learning builds Lowest enemy scaling
Duo Farming efficiently, boss hunts Best XP-per-hour compromise
Trio Comfortable clears Still manageable boss arm counts
Four Challenge, Abomination Assault, chaos Hardest scaling, best social

If you are farming, duo is the sweet spot. If you are pushing Predicament, four with defined roles is easier than solo.

Known co-op quirks

  • Plate Launcher plate recall is still buggy in multiplayer. Prefer Gunship or Trident when joining games in progress.
  • Facility doors for players joining in progress were fixed in 2.0.3 for Paid Time Off, but late joins are still the most fragile state — join before the drop if you can.
  • Sharing Lunch now genuinely heals allies since 2.0.2, which makes a DMLR support slot real rather than decorative.

FAQ

Does Mycopunk have matchmaking? Yes, and it supports four players. There is no local co-op.

Is co-op harder than solo? Enemy count and boss arm counts scale up, so a disorganised four-stack is harder than solo. A coordinated one is easier.

Do all players get the mission XP? Yes, but the pool does not multiply, so individual progress is slower in a full lobby.

What is the best team size for farming? Two.

Can you play with fewer than four? Yes — one to four players, with scaling.
